Winter is a great time to purchase local apples. They are a wonderful low-calorie fruit for lunches or snacks. Make fresh applesauce or baked apples for a side dish. Bake apples pies, dumplings or turnovers for an easy dessert. Apples are one of the only local foods now available and the winter quality is excellent.
Visit our market and enjoy a cup of steaming hot apple cider as you shop. We are open Tuesday through Saturday from 9-5 and Sunday from noon to 5. Don’t forget the donuts!
How to Make Fresh Applesauce
Peel, core, and quarter 3-4 lbs. of apples (Empire, Ida Red, Winesap Jonagold)
¼ cup brown sugar
¼ cup white sugar
1 cup water
Cinnamon to taste
Put all ingredients into large pot, cover and bring to a boil. Lower heat and simmer for 20-30 minutes.
Remove from heat. Mash sauce with a potato masher for chunky sauce or run through a food mill for smooth sauce
Refrigerate when cool.
Try serving applesauce warm as a side dish. Mix with yogurt or serve with ice cream. Use Golden Delicious apples for sauce without added sugar.

Great stuff. Perhaps a little off topic, but would you mind if I write something about this on my tomato plant blog? I will of course, cite original source and link back to your page.
