Actually, apples have an abundance of nutritious benefits including antioxidants, vitamins, dietary fiber, and a range of other nutrients. Ingredients
½ C shortening
1 C chopped walnuts (optional)
1 1/3 C packed brown sugar
1 C WHFF apples, peeled, cored & finely diced
1 egg
1 C raisins
2 C sifted all-purpose flour
¼ C milk
1 tsp baking soda
1 ½ C powdered sugar
½ tsp salt
1 Tbsp butter
1 tsp ground cinnamon
½ tsp vanilla extract
½ tsp ground cloves
2 ½ Tbsp half & half cream
¼ tsp ground nutmeg
Preheat oven to 400. Beat shortening and brown sugar together until light & fluffy. Beat in egg & blend thoroughly. Stir together flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, cloves, & nutmeg. Stir half the dry ingredients into creamed mixture. Stir in nuts, apples and raisins, then stir in remaining half of dry ingredients and milk. Mix well. Drop from tablespoon 1 ½ inches apart onto lightly greased baking sheet. Bake for 10-12 minutes. Begin to prepare Glaze: Combine powdered sugar, butter, vanilla, and enough cream to make glaze to a spreading consistency. Beat until smooth. Remove cookies from oven and spread glaze while cookies are still warm. Enjoy.
